Comic books have given us some of our most beloved superheroes, with characters and storylines that continue to delight movie-goers year after year. But these films wouldn’t be the box office smashes they are today if it weren’t for the comics that were first dreamt up over 80 years ago.
Comic book writers are still creating magical worlds for readers to discover and enjoy. So, to celebrate this wonderful art form, why not join in on this year’s Free Comic Book Day celebration? Each May, on the first Saturday of the month, comic book readers can visit local shops and pick up comic books for free. This year’s Free Comic Book Day falls on May 7th. Here’s how you can participate:
Find A Comic Shop Near You
Head on over to Free Comic Book Day’s (FCBD) official website. From there, you can use the site’s store locator to find a participating FCBD comic store near you. Make a day out of it and plan on visiting two or three stores! This could be a great way to familiarize yourself with comic book shops in your community.
Browse the Catalog
Each year, FCBD offers select titles to comic book readers for free. Browse the official Free Comic Book Day catalog to see what comic books are on this year’s freebie list. The FCBD website also hosts profiles for all FCBD shops. Each profile gives an overview of what each shop will have to offer on FCBD. It’s important to note that every comic shop will have its own FCBD policy. So, if you’re looking for a specific title or wondering how many free comics you’re allowed to scoop, it could be a good idea to call your local store before you visit.
Join the Facebook Group
With over 800,000 followers, the FCBD Facebook Group is a great way to engage with the comic book-loving community. The group poses fun questions for followers to discuss, hosts live online events, and offers a closer look at some of the titles available this year.
And there you have it! All the tools you’ll need to get the most out of FCBD 2022. Happy reading and happy collecting!
