What is the driving force behind the films you’re releasing in 2025?
We are always striving to bring an eclectic slate of new documentaries fresh from the film festival circuit to the institutional market that speak strongly to pressing contemporary issues, and that can be useful resources to support educators, students, and communities to help support their myriad efforts
Are there any specific trends or topics that inspired your slate of films?
Video Project continues to release new films that focus on subject areas that we've seen have strong resonances with our customers such as Black Studies, U.S. History, Immigration, Indigenous Studies, and Health.
Are there any upcoming films that would work well for public screenings around specific awareness months, such as Black History Month or Earth Day?
We Have Just Begun would be a strong contender from our forthcoming slate for Black History Month Programming.
Are any of your 2025 titles particularly suitable for movie night fundraising events?
All of our films are available for single-event screening licensing, which can include fundraisers. Any organization or institution can complete a screening request form on our website for a title from our catalog of their choosing. Two films from our upcoming slate, The M Factor and 1001 Cuts, are both strong programming options for Women's Health Month in May.
How do your films align with course subjects for college majors?
We always strive to identify to what academic departments a film will be relevant before acquiring it for distribution, so all of them will be useful in various respective courses.
Why should libraries prioritize licensing your films over relying on streaming services like Kanopy or Hoopla?
While some of our titles are available on these platforms, we hear from librarians that guaranteeing perpetual access is important, which is something that licensing directly from us offers, and we always welcome the opportunity to establish or further relationships and have conversations with librarians to better understand their needs, which we take into account when seeking out new films for distribution.
How do your films support librarians in curating well-rounded and diverse collections?
Our catalog has many areas of strength and we're always happy to recommend films that can help to better build out collection diversity.
Are there specific licensing options, such as PPR (public performance rights) or digital site licenses, available for your upcoming titles?
Video Project offers PPR and Digital Site Licenses (which also include a DVD) for all of our titles.
Why should public libraries invest in your 2025 titles?
We offer reduced PPR rates to public libraries, so they are able to host community screenings at their branches in perpetuity, along with patron circulation.
