This week the Media Education Lab announced a new and exciting scholarship program through The Graduate Certificate in Digital Literacy program at the University of Rhode Island funding five new tuition awards. These awards will go towards educators who's work addresses the needs of underprivileged communities to attend the award-winning 9th Annual Summer Institute in Digital Literacy (SIDL). Julie Corio and Renee Hobbs founded the Summer Institute in Digital Literacy in 2013 to help support the lifelong learning needs of K-12 teachers, college and university faculty, librarians, community leaders and media professionals.
The University of Rhode Island (URI) and the National Louis University (NLU) will host the event online beginning July 16 through July 20, 2021. The tuition for the online program is $400 (or $800 for three graduate credits). However, there are specific requirements that must be met in order to obtain the scholarship. The application states:
"While all educators who work in underserved communities are eligible to apply, we will prioritize diverse teacher applicants who work in underserved areas and have a strong interest in using digital literacy tools and practices to create a more equitable and inclusive society."
Further, after being selected applicants must:
- meet in a virtual focus group and/or workshop during the Institute to share their experiences
- complete a survey at the end of the Institute to share their experiences
- post a short (300-word commentary) to our 'From PD To Practice' blog (https://digiuri.wordpress.com), reflecting on the learning experience
Hurry as applications must be submitted no later than May 26, 2021 at midnight EST. To apply please view the following link: https://www.digiuri.com/scholarships
