Enrollment is now open for five online filmmaking classes this summer through SheridanWorks. All classes are taught via Zoom, with relevant production and editing equipment available to rent for students in the Greater Boston area. Core courses: Filmmaking Fundamentals, Storytelling Workshop, Camera and Sound Workshop, and Editing Workshop require no pre-requisites, with the Filmmaking Project Group for more advanced students. Classes are taught by Michael Sheridan, an experienced documentary filmmaker who focuses on a range of international issues.
Filmmaking Fundamentals is a 10-week course focusing on everything from story development, to production, to editing - which each student producing a final short film. Summer session classes begin on 6/6, taking place on Mondays and Thursdays via Zoom. Students in the Greater Boston area have the opportunity to rent production packages including a camera, tripod, and microphone, and can also rent laptops equipped with editing software. The class price for students using their own equipment is $700 and is up to $1750 for students renting production and editing equipment.
Storytelling Workshop is a 6-week course that examines the process of researching, developing, and structuring a documentary film. Storytelling Workshop’s summer session begins on 6/8, with classes on Wednesdays via Zoom. The course cost is $380.
The Camera and Sound Workshop begins on 7/14. This 6-week course covers the aesthetic and technical skills involved in constructing scenes for any genre of filmmaking. Summer session classes take place on Mondays and Thursdays via Zoom. The class costs $380 for students using their own materials with the option to rent production equipment for an additional $300.
The Editing Workshop is a 6-week course beginning on 8/4. Using Adobe Premiere, students will learn the principles of post-production storytelling. Summer classes take place Mondays and Thursdays via Zoom. The course cost is $380, with the option to rent a laptop equipped with Adobe Premiere for an additional $150.
Advanced filmmakers can receive critiques and reviews of their in-progress projects as well as individualized training in the Filmmaking Projects Group 10-week course. The course begins on 9/21 with weekly meetings on Wednesday via Zoom. The course cost is $480. Michael Sheridan also offers one-on-one mentoring sessions for $65/ hour.
