Bookworms and Cinephiles: Literary Film Discussion
to
Do you love period dramas? Are you dying to discuss the latest adaption of The Witcher? Wether you're a fan of Dective Poirot or Doctor Lecter, this literary adaption discussion will have something for you: Join booklovers and cinephiles alike as we tackle literary adaptions across the genres and the decades to decide once and for all: is the book truly always better than the movie?
The premise is simple: every month, we'll select a film that is based on a novel. You'll be tasked to watch the movie, read the book, or do both on your own before the meeting. Then, at each meeting, we'll discuss the movie of the month in a casual and fun free-flow discussion. We'll talk about what we liked/didn't like about the movie, the themes, the filmmaking, and exchange recommendations.
This June, we will be discussing Michael Cunningham's The Hours and Academy Award Winning The Hours (2002) adaption starring Nicole Kidman and Meryl Streep. The Hours follows three generations of women who, despite their wide differences, are connected by the classic novel Mrs Dalloway. Each is alive at a different time and place, but as we follow a single day in their lives, we discover the incredible ways their stories intertwine and finally come together in a surprising, transcendent moment of shared recognition.
