What?!? The dentist, fun?!? "Dedicated to adults who grew up with unfavorable dental experiences," this excellent program points out that much of the terror inspired by the dentist is connected with the mysterious scary tools which patients get up close and familiar with as a result of bad dental hygiene habits at home. Attempting to deal with both issues through the adventures of 5-year-old beaver Bucky Chopper, a budding backlot baseball star, the video accompanies Bucky and his mom on a trip to see Dr. Rob, a friendly dentist with a habit of breaking into song. Despite Bucky's initial fears, he learns to enjoy the magic chair, the teeth counter, and Mr. Drinky. Sound fun yet? Wait, there's more! After the cleaning, fluoride, and X-rays, Bucky learns how to take care of his teeth (especially the huge front ones) with proper brushing and flossing. Although most of the video features a furry beaver interacting with humans, the program stays realistic and practical thanks to excellent puppetry and editing. Clever animation along with fun, non-cheesy songs fill in the gaps to create an entertaining, affordable, and very useful video that demystifies the dentist experience and, yes, makes it fun. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. Aud: K, E, P. (E. Gieschen)
