Based on the stories of Isaac Bashevis Singer, this so-so animated tale is a nevertheless charming Jewish slice-of-life in which the titular hero must try to stop an evil sorcerer from sending a Golem to wreak destruction on the little Polish town of Chelm during Hanukkah. While some of the vocabulary will stump non-Jewish audiences, the gist of the tale will be easily understood by devotees of Saturday morning cartoons and the lyrics by Michel Legrand (Yentl) and music by Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof) are enjoyable. Recommended. Aud: P. (R. Pitman)
