The blobby green sticker on the DVD carries the promise: “Full-length movie. Full of boogers!” And Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure certainly delivers on both, but somehow the gross-out potty humor also manages to be delightfully goofy, perhaps due to the irresistibly cheerful spin that cartoonist Maxwell Atoms puts on his demented twisting of kiddie cartoons. Billy and Mandy are regular suburban kids—he's an idiot, she's snide and sarcastic—whose best friend is the Grim Reaper. Their half-hour adventures are cablecast on Cartoon Network (the show's early-evening timeslot puts it somewhere between purely children's fare and the network's ultrasubversive late-night Adult Swim entries). Big Boogey Adventure, by contrast, is a cable feature film in which the aforementioned trio take on the boogeyman in a tale of monster pirates, evil artifacts, scary futuristic robots, and, of course, snot. Presented with both widescreen and full screen versions, DVD extras include the original “Bully Boogie” short and interviews with the voice actors. Recommended. Aud: P. (M. Johanson)
