While most reference books may list Father Josef Mohr and Choirmaster Franz Gruber as co-authors of the 1818 hit single "Silent Night," the popular Christmas carol was actually written by a mouse named Chauncey. This quasi-An American Tale, featuring the voices of the late Phil Hartman and Tom Arnold, tells the tale of two homeless mice who hope to become the big cheeses in a quiet little 19th century hamlet. In a tale decked out with all the trimmings, the mice pursue their dream to sing for the queen of Oberndorf, while encountering bad guys, evil plots, a young orphan (wrongly accused of being a thief), and a nasty cat. In addition to the nice slice of holiday songs, viewers will come away with a well-meaning message about loyal friendship and the spirit of giving. A warm and furry holiday tale which underscores the true meaning of Christmas. Recommended.
