Based on the classic board game, the animated Candy Land revolves around gingerbread boy Jib's Oz-like quest to follow the Rainbow Road to Candy Castle in time for the Sweet Circle celebration, which ushers in a "brand-new sweet flavor." Along the way, Jib meets many characters, including Jolly, a shape-shifting "gummy," Mr. Mint, who is no Jiminy Cricket when it comes to acting responsibly, and the careless Princess, whose magic scepter has been stolen by the licorice bit minions of Lord Licorice, who, yes, wants to transform Candy Land into Licorice Land. Jib has a good head on his icing-topped shoulders, and does his best to stay on the right path, despite the detours Mr. Mint compels him to make ("Oughta Gotta Have Fun," he sings). Unfortunately, this is routine eye candy for kids at best, and preschoolers' time would probably be better spent playing the actual game. DVD extras include a music video and a sing-along. Not recommended. Aud: P. (D. Liebenson)
