A well-meaning but thoroughly scattershot program for children, the environmentally-friendly Captain Jon Explores the Ocean benefits from gorgeous underwater cinematography spotlighting a variety of ocean-dwelling creatures, as host Captain Jon visits the Dolphin Research Center in the Florida Keys, as well as a manmade artificial reef, and other South Florida locations. Unfortunately, the program is marred by clumsy writing and direction, with scenes strung together by the most tenuous of verbal and visual connections. Elementary school-aged children will enjoy the underwater scenes, as well as a segment featuring trained dolphins, but older children and parents will be driven bonkers by the hodgepodge nature of the production. Optional. Aud: E, P. (S. Fisher)
