Unable to find "any good exercise videos for children" (cue laugh or incredulity track), producer Scott Drayer hit upon the idea of resurrecting that silly nugget from the Kennedy administration, the "Chicken Fat" song. Opening with a clip of JFK's bizarre-sounding (today) commentary about "other countries [who have] moved ahead of our country" in the escalating youth fitness race, the program introduces a dozen standard issue overly-emotive kids who, along with adult instructor Dave, perform roughly 10-minutes worth of push-ups, sit-ups, and so on, followed by a brief Q&A period. For no apparent reason, whatsoever (except the practical one of turning a 13-minute exercise video into a 22-minute exercise video), the exercise segment is then repeated. Nostalgic parents (who can gather round and sing "go, you chicken fat, go!") are liable to be more appreciative of this than kids, who--Mr. Drayer's research into children's exercise videos notwithstanding--are presently well-served with many other choices which actually speak to their own time, not 30 years ago. A strictly optional purchase. Aud: K, E, P. (R. Pitman)
