The title story alone would make this an excellent purchase. Don Freeman's Corduroy is the live-action story of a department store teddy bear who, because he is missing a button on his overalls, is not bought by a mother for her daughter. Later that evening, the little bear goes on a wondrous search for the missing button--riding a toy train, hiding in a bin of beach balls from a security guard, and finally wrenching a button loose from a mattress, only to be captured. Misplaced by the guard, the little bear is very nearly overlooked when the young girl returns the next day. Winner of the Blue Ribbon from the American Film Festival. The second story, Janosch's Panama is a delightful and instructive lesson on the old adage 'the grass is always greener.' When Little Bear and Little Tiger discover a banana-scented crate stamped "Panama," they set out to search for the dream land, only to end up where they began. Winner of the First Prize from the Jeunesse International Children's TV Festival. The final story, Robert McCloskey's Caldecott Honor Book, Blueberries for Sal, is a clever comedy about what happens when a human mother and a bear mother get their siblings swapped while picking blueberries. Highly recommended for public libraries (Available from CC Studios, Weston, CT 06883).
