Based on popular children's author Doreen Cronin and illustrator Betsy Lewin's 2006 picture book, Dooby Dooby Moo finds narrator Randy Travis and musicians Scotty Huff and Robert Reynolds returning for a fourth animated adaptation featuring Farmer Brown and his hilarious farm animals (the first three were Click, Clack, Moo Cows That Type [VL-3/02], Giggle, Giggle, Quack [VL-5/04], and Duck for President [VL-3/05]). This time out, Duck is determined to enter the upcoming local fair's talent competition (1st prize: trampoline) and towards that end he puts together a semi-impressive team: the cows mooing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star,” the sheep baa-ing “Home on the Range,” and the pigs performing…well…an interpretive dance to the strains of something that sounds a lot like Enya. Of course, Duck and his animal compadres are careful to keep their late-night rehearsals secret from the farmer, who nevertheless suspects that something's up, and therefore herds the whole barnyard lot of them into the back of his pickup for a ride to the fair—so that he can keep an eye on them. With the transportation problem solved, Duck and company eagerly make for the appropriate tent, where they strut their stuff before the judges with mixed results. Fortunately, however, Duck saves the day with a spirited rendition (kudos to the excellent vocals by Jon Carroll) of the Steppenwolf classic “Born to Be Wild.” Another fun entry in a winning series, DVD extras here include a read-along option.
