This holiday special from the popular Nickelodeon series uses the framing device of Santa relating a story to his bilingual group of elves. Dora and the gang (including her monkey friend Boots, Isa the iguana, and Tico the squirrel) are preparing for a food and fun-filled Nochebuena party to celebrate the season. As per usual with the series, devious pal Swiper the fox shows up, and steals the star on top of the tree (which viewers interactively help save when they “throw” it back), but this time there are consequences after Santa slaps him on the naughty list. Dora goes to bat for Swiper, and takes the deal when Santa allows them a chance to fill up a magic card with four ornaments and a star after learning lessons about the true meaning of the holiday. DVD extras include two music videos, and a behind-the-scenes featurette. With the use of a time-travel cape, silly songs, and plenty of emphasis on giving and sharing, this festive addition to the series is easily recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
