A hybrid between the incomparable Sesame Street--now celebrating 35 years of educating and entertaining little minds--and its spin-off Elmo's World, this program combines the formats of both shows, with Elmo leading the way. What's Elmo thinking about today? The furry crimson three-year-old monster (he's jokingly referred to as “the little red menace”) has his mind set on his Sesame Street friends. Combining Elmo's usual tasks (answering e-mail, working with numbers and letters, watching TV, etc.), with segments featuring Sesame Street principals (Maria, Bob, Gordon, Bert and Ernie, Telly, Big Bird, Cookie Monster, the Count--the gang's all here!), and vintage clips (including animated and live-action segments and songs from previous Sesame Street episodes, with brief celebrity cameos from Julianne Moore, Venus Williams, Norah Jones, Seth Green, Larry King, etc.), the show culminates with Elmo going outside--to the renowned road on which he lives--to express his love for his neighbors and join in the rousing ensemble tune “The Street We Live On.” While this is a little light on the retrospective side, the older stuff will nevertheless be new to many contemporary young viewers. Recommended. Aud: K, E, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
