Minister/author Max Lucado penned this CGI-animated “Just Like Jesus Story” about a self-conscious little caterpillar named Hermie (voiced by Tim Conway) who, after seeing a strikingly beautiful butterfly, grows skeptical of God's purpose for him, imploring the Lord to explain the reason for his own lackluster appearance. Incredulous of God's reply ("I'm not finished with you yet”), Hermie and his best bud Wormie (Don Knotts) embark on a series of makeover fiascos--including fashioning leaves for butterfly wings; trying to carry a heavy house like a snail; and shaking a blueberry plant to get the fruit to drop to make colorful spots. While their forest friends tell the pair that's just how the good Lord made them, the duo don't really believe it until God tells them he already created them unique…and Hermie wakes up in a cocoon, then metamorphoses into his own stunning exterior. Uninspired songs aside, this brightly colored religious fable for kids will be enjoyed by children of all denominations. Recommended. Aud: K, P. (J. Williams)
