The first in a promised series, this clever and funny animated episode of Horned Avenger begins with a ray gun assault on an ordinary family, mounted by little grey men with big heads who seem intent on turning young Allie and her dad into colorless meanies, too. Along comes the Horned Avenger and his trusty, albeit acerbic, sidekick BLT, who rescue Allie and head for Speranza, a dark and nasty world created by Baron Von Boredom. It turns out that the Baron, intent on robbing humanity of its color and faith in a Creator, was behind the attack on Allie, and the rather chesty, toothy, tusky Horned Avenger (in training to be a superhero, as it turns out) plans to stop him. Nicely animated and boasting a fair amount of wit and subtlety about its religious themes (secular families will enjoy this as well), Horned Avenger is a kick. DVD extras include a drawing lesson and deleted scenes. Recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
