This 2012 stop-motion animated holiday special, starring cartoon favorite SpongeBob and his neighbors in the underwater realm of Bikini Bottom, features interludes with a hook-handed pirate and his parrot pal, as well as a jingle-embellished opening sequence. While Squidward decorates his house with lights to advise Santa (guest voiced by John Goodman) to “go away,” Patrick wants to trap the jolly fat man, and the villainous Plankton has a mischievous plan to lace the community's fruitcakes with his special brand of “Jerktonium” in a bid to make himself look better (in comparison) on Kris Kringle's naughty and nice list. Cheerful and chipper SpongeBob naively helps distribute the tainted goodies, but doesn't seem to be affected by the evil, so Plankton creates a flame-throwing automated robot version of our hero…with silly results. Extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette and a yule log segment. Exclusive to the Blu-ray release are 10 bonus episodes and a Violent Femmes music video. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
