Children of all ages (and more than a few adults!) will be thoroughly entranced by this look at the world of aviation from a variety of angles. Everything from model airplanes to aerial precision drill teams to a never-before-seen tour of an immense C-5 ‘Galaxy' is provided here. The pitch is aimed at kids, but the video is mercifully free of the sugar-coating that generally accompanies films made for a young audience. Each segment is clearly marked--thankfully, since kids might not have the ability to sit through the 105 minute film in one viewing--so parents and educators could show it over a number of days. (It could even be used as a reward: "Eat your spinach and I'll let you see the part where the boy gets his homework delivered by his dad in an Ultralight.") Although much of the dialogue is obviously scripted, there are periods of spontaneity where the children and adults talk freely about their love of anything connected with airplanes. The overacting "host" never got off the ground with me, but everything else flies here: the music...the photography....the interviews...the tours. Get ready for an armchair flight of fancy that is highly entertaining for all. Recommended. Aud: E, P. (J. Carlson)
