This animated tale from the moral-filled King Otis and the Kingdom of Goode series is visually…well, strange, featuring animal-like characters comprised of different parts--such as the main character, McFlicken, a flying cat-dog-bee who is the crotchety head honcho of a big tree that houses four other critters. Being selfish about everything from the best tree branches to worm provisions, McFlicken is often irritated with his eclectic roomies--especially their noise, a problem compounded when the innocent foursome form a band to perform expressly for him. The rehearsal din proves to be the last straw for McFlicken, who evicts his neighbors with no remorse…initially. Eventually, however, McFlicken becomes lonely, but he gets a second chance when the arrival of a vulnerable baby animal teaches him about tolerance and compassion for others, ultimately leading to his inviting his old roomies back home. Backed with several rousing, Broadway-style songs, this colorful, inventive program is recommended. [Note: also newly available in the series at the same price are A Tale of Patience and A Tale of Difference.] Aud: K, P. (J. Williams)
