Since this is produced by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, it's only natural that viewers are alerted to scientifically observed physiological effects of certain recipes prepared here: namely, the "Orange Cooler" is going to make you burp like a bullfrog in love and the beans in those "Soft-Bean-and-Cheese-Tacos" will--well I suspect our younger readers can fill in the proverbial blank here by cupping their hands under their armpits and doing the flapping funky chicken. Filmed in front of a live and boisterous kid audience, the "Food Gang"--together with special guest stars Professor Food Fax and Lynn Fischer (a chef seen on The Discovery Channel)--prepare the aforementioned healthy drink and low-fat tacos, as well as "Pita Pizzas" and the spelling-impaired "Bananany Bread." While the program sometimes seems a bit too energetic (this is cooking, for Graham Kerr's sake, not Double Dare), kids are sure to enjoy the Food Gang's antics and parents will appreciate both the nutritional soundness of the recipes and the plethora of safety tips ("Rule number one is to cut your food without reducing the number of digits on your hand.") Very affordable and highly recommended. Aud: E, I, P. (R. Pitman)
