In Mo Willems' celebrated 2007 sequel (a School Library Journal and Booklist Best Book of the Year, ALA Notable Children's Book, and Caldecott Honor Book), preschooler Trixie takes her beloved Knuffle Bunny to class for show and tell and—horrors!—discovers that Sonja has a Knuffle Bunny, too! Needless to say, this does not go down well. Alert young audiences will see that Sonja's bunny has pink ears and a bow, while Trixie's does not; also they cannot help but notice that Trixie pronounces the “K” in “Knuffle” and Sonja does not, as the girls shout the names out ever more loudly. The classroom chaos continues to the point that the bunnies are confiscated until it's time to go home—but things don't settle down for long. In the middle of the night, Trixie discovers she has the wrong bunny! When her very tired dad makes a phone call, he finds Sonja's equally exhausted father on the other end. A meeting ensues, and all is well again, as bunnies are exchanged and Trixie and Sonja become best friends. Narrated by Willems and his real-life daughter Trixie, this terrific follow-up to the Andrew Carnegie Medal winning Knuffle Bunny (VL-3/07) sets fully animated figures against digitally manipulated photographic backgrounds of the author's home turf in Brooklyn, NY, backed by music from Scotty Huff and Robert Reynolds. Featuring a read-along option, DVD extras include an interview with Willems. Highly recommended. Aud: K,E, P. (G.A. DeCandido)
