Welcome to the world of Caroline Feller "And You Can Make It Yourself!" Bauer. In this short tape, the storyteller/librarian/magician demonstrates effective techniques for capturing a young audience's attention and imagination: simple magic tricks, hand and stick puppets, hats, juggling balls and scarves, colored placement drawings, bags and boxes, felt aprons to which objects can be attached, and, perhaps most interesting, an apron with clear pockets into which actual books can be placed and then distributed. Bauer knows well that most libraries are, uh, financially challenged, and viewers will appreciate that most of her humble props can be made easily by even the artistically challenged. I really believed her when she told me that a piece of felt with a pair of eyes drawn on it was a bear, and your kids will too. A good solid title for public and elementary school librarians, especially those to whom storytelling has been newly assigned. Aud: K, E, I, P. (K. Glaser)
