Essentially reworking footage that appeared in Making Music in the Classroom (VL-10/95), Let's Sing presents extended versions of songs sung by John Langstaff and a classroom full of children without the accompanying footage aimed at helping parents, teachers, and librarians spark children's interest in music. Watching John Langstaff work with children remains a joy; however, this program was never intended to be a bona fide sing-along and the mere addition of overlaid narration (in awkwardly and obviously Johnny come lately inserted audio bites such as "everybody sing!") does not make the leopard change its spots, so to speak. Without detracting from Langstaff's amazing rapport with children, there are just too many outstanding sing-along videos out there culled from Sesame Street or made directly for video which actually engage the intended audience of children. Not a necessary purchase. A companion volume, Let's Sing! John Langstaff Sings with Children Ages 7-10, is also available. Aud: K, E, P. (R. Pitman)
