Created for children aged 1-5, this program of “Christ-based teaching songs” stars Jean Thomason as the titular, colorful host Miss PattyCake. Combining Barney-ized sounding music with visuals that include live-action, computer graphics, a Miss PC puppet, and a guy in a bunny suit, this 10-song compilation (with onscreen lyrics) includes “Copy Cat,” “Fruits and Veggies,” “Splish Splash” (not the Bobby Darin version), “You Can Be a Helper,” “I Spy,” “Count the Candles,” and “Fishing ABC's,” all of which provide repetitive lessons about colors, numbers, and letters, as well as personal hygiene, among other preschool-friendly subjects. Miss PattyCake--who talks in the third person and exudes a Marie Osmond-on-uppers kind of vibe--looks into the camera far more often than she does into the faces of her young audience, who--quite honestly--are used more like props than participants, and although the Christian focus is made clear, I only noted two specifically religious references.
