Hosted by late Emmy and Peabody award-winning children's entertainer Fred Rogers, this compilation from the 1968-2001 series includes two episodes on handling strong emotions. Featuring the characteristic comforting trademarks of the show—Rogers slips into a comfy sweater and shoes, and pleasantly sings and talks directly to the camera—the program features a visit from Rogers' friends, including Maggie (who swims to relieve stress and anger) and wheelchair-bound teen Jay (he and Rogers do exercises together), as well as amiable ditties about being special and the titular anger management tune. In addition, young viewers will take a journey to the puppet-inhabited Neighborhood of Make-Believe in Mr. R's wall, where the marionette-ish Lady Elaine's jealousy and anger over her substandard drawing abilities lead her to mess up Grandpere's tower with her boomerang (she learns to be a better sport and eventually puts thing right). The best segment is Rogers' visit with members of the STOMP dance troupe, in which the gentle Rogers excitedly pounds away on blue bass bins along with the group. DVD extras include a neat tour of a construction paper factory and a sing-along version of the title tune. Suggesting positive modes of dealing with anger—including sports, playing music, and even taking deep breaths—that “don't hurt you or anyone else,” this is recommended. Aud: K, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
