Based on the Tonka toy line, this five-episode compilation from the animated series spotlights a group of shelter dogs who strive to pair up pups with their perfect person. “King of the Heap” finds a tough Rottweiler named Tyson being pushed aside when a junkyard owner is instead impressed by the raucous demeanor of ditzy Niblet (who is actually just reacting to a bee). When the gang heads to the dump to make a switcheroo, they find that Niblet has let the power go to his head, and they must get him to see that the job should belong to Tyson. “Snow Problem” spotlights Husky runt Tundra's dream of being part of an Iditarod team, as the Pound Puppies trek up to Alaska to help the little one get noticed; and “There's Something About Camelia” follows a spotted dog who is so adaptable that the headquarters database indicates she would be good for everyone, resulting in large crowds and a struggle to find the right owner who will let her be herself. Also featuring the episodes “Taboo” and “Zipper the Zoomit Dog,” this series boasts some genuine humor and solid lessons, as well as an impressive voice cast, including Eric McCormack as alpha dog Lucky, and Michael Rapaport as wise guy Chihuahua Squirt. DVD extras include a printable adoption certificate. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
