The seventh and final volume of Sailor Moon SuperS (the second-to-last Sailor Moon series), featuring the perennially popular Sailor Moon and her scouts (anime's most prominent superheroes, as seen on the Cartoon Network), the hero of this particular story is actually Rini (Sailor Mini-Moon, also called Chibi-Usa), the daughter of Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask from the future, visiting her folks-to-be in the past. When the evil Queen Nehelenia gains control of the Golden Crystal, she becomes too powerful for Sailor Moon and the scouts to defeat--but Rini has a plan to save the day. The disc contains both the Japanese and English versions of the show, with the English dub continuing in the vein of earlier episodes with notably more slang and silliness than the original (Nehelenia's minion Zirconia gets called "zirc-face" a lot--and, incidentally, changes from a "she" in the original to a "he" in the translation). The animation is not always high-quality, and the DVD transfer is somewhat soft and a bit grainy, but the SuperS series has the virtue of being unedited, unlike the earliest televised Sailor Moon episodes. Recommended where the series is popular. Aud: P. (S. Raiteri)
