"'It's snowing,' said boy with dog." "'It's only a snowflake,' said grandfather with beard." In this iconographic adaptation of the 1998 picture book by Uri Shulevitz, the first flakes of snow drift down into an unnamed Russian city. Hope springs eternal in the boy with dog, who continues to predict snow, even as elder naysayers say "it's nothing" or "it'll melt" and the radio assures "no snow" (but, as narrator George Guidall reminds us in an accented voice, "snowflakes don't listen to radio"). A simple sketch about differences in perception, this nicely illustrated video version of the Caldecott Honor book is recommended for larger collections. Aud: K, P. (R. Pitman)
