This four-story compilation continues the preschool-oriented animated adventures of Playhouse Disney series favorite Stanley, a six-year-old animal-lover who learns life lessons and enjoys friends, school and family. Equipped with his “Great Big Book of Everything” (an interactive tool that gives Stanley useful background info about his topics of the day) and aided by pets Elsie (cat), Harry (dog), and Emmy award-winning lovably sassy goldfish Dennis (voiced by Brit actor Charles Shaughnessy), Stanley discovers facts about Groundhog Day and the groundhog (a.k.a. woodchuck) in “Searching for Spring,” and celebrates Earth Day by learning about endangered animals and making a birdhouse in “Save the Bluebird!” In “Caterpillar Countdown,” the gang adopts a caterpillar in a cocoon (and anxiously awaits the birth of the butterfly) and in “Baby Pictures,” a class project causes Stanley to wonder about the process of growing up. Overall, this is an enchanting, positive program featuring a cute little guy with a big imagination--and, who knows, maybe even a reference librarian in the making! DVD extras include the “Make Your Very Own Great Big Book of Everything” game, four animal fact segments, and the “Stanley's Theme” music video by the Baha Men. Recommended.
