Compiling four episodes, this educational Nickelodeon series invites young viewers to become an UmiFriend and help mighty math heroes Milli (who can replicate patterns), her brother Geo (whose expertise is building things out of shapes), and their mechanical pal Bot (whose nifty “Belly Belly Belly” screen serves as a display) to solve problems. In “The Rolling Toy Parade,” the gang comes to the rescue of real-life youngster Nick, who needs to fix his broken lion toy in time for a parade. Hopping in their cool Umi Car, the trio arrive on the scene for an exercise in cognitive thinking (“What did it look like before?”) and problem-solving skills, embarking on a quest to locate missing parts that includes a hot air balloon jaunt, a visit with cute singing baby hawks, and meeting a squirrel who collects wheels. Also featuring “Kite Festival,” “Wild West Train Show,” and “The Legend of the Blue Mermaid,” DVD extras include a “Shapes Under the Sea” game and character profiles. Fun, fresh, and smart, this is easily recommended. Aud: K, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
