Hal Holbrook narrates this animated Christian folktale about three trees, whose different dreams of becoming useful to man aren't realized. Since "God always has a plan," one tree turns out to be the crib which holds the baby Jesus, another becomes a boat on the Galilee and a third is transformed into the Christian cross. The premise that trees only dream of being useful to man is questionable in my opinion (the basic assumption that the worst thing that can happen to a tree is to be unused and forgotten in the forest kind of offends my admittedly redwood hugging, spotted owl loving nature), and I would have been more comfortable if the trees had simply lobbied the Sierra Club and lived happily ever after in Heaven's Grove. Presenting a debatable premise that pits "God's plan" against Mother Nature, this evangelical Christian offering should be considered an optional purchase where appropriate. Aud: P. (R. Ray)
