Australia's children's favorites The Wiggles (Jeff, Greg, Murray, and Anthony--decked out in purple, yellow, red, and blue, respectively) are always at the top of my tyke-themed tapes list. Unlike usual Wiggles fare, this program is feature-length with multiple locations, but familiar friends (including Dorothy the Dinosaur, Wags the Dog and Captain Feathersword), wiggly dancing, and the quartet's special brand of silly songs are abundantly on display in this 1997 effort originally released in their native homeland as The Wiggles Movie. While performing at a school on Dorothy's birthday, the Wiggles secretly enlist students to help with a surprise party; unfortunately, when a dastardly magician named Wally the Great steals Greg's magic wand, Dorothy gives pursuit, leading The Wiggles on a wacky chase that leads them everywhere but to Dorothy (who makes amends and friends with Wally, but thinks that everyone has forgotten her birthday). Featuring songs such as “Can You Point Your Fingers and Do the Twist?”, “Rockin' and a Rollin' Sea,” “Hot Potato” (featuring young versions of the Wiggles), and “Nya, Nya, Nya,” this entertaining program starring the popular Wiggles (who are like live-action cartoons) is highly recommended.
