An iconographic-animated adaptation of author Amy Reichert and illustrator Alexandra Bolger's Parents Choice award-winning 2005 picture book, narrated by Reichert and her daughter, While Mama Had a Quick Little Chat opens with young protagonist Rose being told by her mother to “get ready for bed while I have a little chat with Uncle Fred” on the phone. But when the doorbell rings, Rose just has to stay up to admit muscled delivery dudes with party decorations, arrange hors d'oeurves, greet guests, and finally just join the swinging party (she's even sawed in two as a magician's assistant). All the while, Rose keeps trying to get the attention of her obliviously chatty mom, to no avail. Featuring simple but effective illustrations, backed by an appropriately party-frantic soundtrack, this winsome children's fantasy title is highly recommended. Aud: K, E, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
