This addition to a very clever literature-based series combines 1) a contemporary story of media madness, as Wanda, the owner of the local newspaper, becomes first a local hero and then a suspected tyrant thanks to a twisted TV reporter, and 2) a tale of the Old West, inspired by O. Henry and his "Heart of the West" series, as Wishbone the dog plays a banker who helps to civilize the wild frontier. I realize the stories sound like apples and oranges, but trust me, together they make a wonderful fruit salad (so to speak). Wishbone, for the uninitiated, is an amiable dog who only thinks out loud, he doesn't actually talk or even move his lips (did I say lips, as in dog-lips? I worry.) The program sports high production qualities and introduces literature-inspired stories to today's youth, who will learn here that O. Henry was more than a chocolate candy-bar. Strongly recommended.
