High-powered, single biz exec J. C. "Tiger Lady" Wiatt (Diane Keaton) is on the company partner fast-track until an unexpected 'inheritance' saddles her with a baby girl. Soon she is overcome by a will to mother, a will that both scares her career-obsessed squeeze (Harold Ramis) and gets her fired from her job. Retreating to the Vermont countryside, J. C. eventually realigns her life priorities and finds new happiness, with a little help from the local veterinarian (Sam Shepard). While completely predictable, Baby Boom is nevertheless a charming little romantic sleeper, buoyed by a too rare appearance by the comically-gifted Keaton. Don't expect too much and you'll be pleasantly surprised. Recommended. (S. C. Sickles)
