The big guy is back...and he's not very happy. This is a truly awful film in every respect--save one: when Godzilla is onscreen and doing the disco duck all over Tokyo, we're entranced. After you dispense with the terrible acting, the mindless script, and the laughable attempts at environmental/metaphysical philosophy, there's still a good chunk of the film devoted to Big G.'s unique approach to urban renewal. On that basis, we recommend the film. You may even want to buy multiple copies, because PG-rated horror fare (good or bad) is very hard to come by. Two other strong entries in this category are 1) the surprisingly delightful (if extremely mischievous) Stephen King's Cat's Eye, rated PG-13, and 2) Brian DePalma's Phantom of the Paradise, rated PG. Both are available from Key Video and priced 79.95 and 59.95, respectively.
