William Wyler (The Best Years of Our Lives) directed this frothy 1966 comedy about a Parisian woman (Audrey Hepburn) who plots to steal an alleged masterpiece from an art museum in order to keep her father (Hugh Griffith)--an art forger who created the piece--out of trouble. Hepburn's character hires a burglar (Peter O'Toole) to commit the well-intentioned crime, not realizing that he's a fake, as well: a detective who is close to arresting both his client and her dad. Ultimately, however, How to Steal a Million is driven entirely by the comic charm of its cast, with Hepburn never more lovely and funny, and O'Toole especially nimble (Wyler seems primarily concerned with getting out of the way of his stars and the film's handsome if weightless production design). DVD extras on this reasonably sharp-looking disc include commentary by co-star Eli Wallach and Wyler's daughter Catherine, as well as a Biography episode on Hepburn. A strong optional purchase. (T.
