Threatened by rising anti-Jewish activity in the 1930s, a young German woman named November ("the month of death") flees her native country for Paris, where she meets and falls in love with a patriotic French femme named Ferial who hides her after the Nazis occupy France. As events unfold, Ferial's loyalty to country, as well as her relationship with November, are sorely tested. Apparently, the lesbian theme of this passable but unexceptional 1984 film played a role in its securing a distributor even as often better foreign fare has gone begging for distribution. Popular on the festival circuit, November Moon was voted best film in the New York Gay Film Festival. Very optional. (T. Rich)
