Forget Larry Clark's controversial Kids, Tim Hunter's 1986 River's Edge, made nearly ten years prior, is still the boldest and most frightening look yet at the alienation and disaffection of modern youth. Crispin Glover, Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye Leitch and Daniel Roebuck star in this chilling, based-on-fact tale of a group of teenagers who hide the murder of one of their classmates from authorities. Roebuck, as the killer, and the always over-the-top Glover, both shine here, as does Dennis Hopper as a (surprise!) deranged shut-in with a rubber bride. Deeply disturbing and highly recommended. (S.
