One of the most enchanting and romantic films ever made! This 1954 Billy Wilder classic stars Audrey Hepburn in her most magical role as Sabrina Fairchild, the gawky teenage daughter of a chauffeur, who, after being devastated by an unrequited crush on a millionaire playboy (William Holden), hies to Paris and returns a stunningly beautiful (and highly desirable) young woman. Yet another spring-winter romance for Hepburn, with the 25-year-old actress paired with the 20-years-her-senior Humphrey Bogart, but the whole thing works surprisingly well. Remade in 1995 with Harrison Ford and Julia Ormond, which admittedly has its moments, but accept no substitutes for the original, which is sine qua non for any film collection. Our highest recommendation. Editor's Choice. (S. C. Sickles)[DVD Review—Nov. 25, 2008—Paramount, 2 discs, 112 min., not rated, $24.99—Making its latest appearance on DVD, 1954's Sabrina (Centennial Collection) features a nice transfer. DVD extras include the cast featurettes “William Holden: The Paramount Years” (30 min.), “Audrey Hepburn: Fashion Icon” (18 min.), and “Supporting Sabrina” (17 min.); the production featurettes “Sabrina's World” (12 min.), “Audrey Hepburn: In Her Own Words” (12 min.), “Paramount in the ‘50s” (10 min.), and “Behind the Gates: Camera” (5 min.); stills galleries; and a booklet. Bottom line: a fine extras package for a classic film.][Blu-ray Review—Apr. 22, 2014—Paramount, 113 min., not rated, $19.98—Making its first appearance on Blu-ray, 1954's Sabrina sports a wonderful transfer and a DTS-HD 2.0 mono soundtrack. Extras include the cast featurettes “William Holden: The Paramount Years” (30 min.), “Audrey Hepburn: Fashion Icon” (18 min.), and “Supporting Sabrina” (17 min.), as well as the behind-the-scenes featurettes “Sabrina's World” (12 min.), “Sabrina Documentary” (12 min.), and “Behind-the-Gates: Cameras” on Paramount Studios equipment (5 min.). Bottom line: this beloved Hepburn vehicle makes a welcome debut on Blu-ray.]
