Smart, sharp and highly entertaining, Scandal chronicles the 1960s "affair that toppled a government" between call-girl Christine Keeler, British Cabinet Minister John Profumo and Russian spy Eugene Ivanov. Rob Roy director Michael Caton-Jones assembled some of the best thesps in the biz for this "politics as unusual" tale--including Ian McKellan, John Hurt and Bridget Fonda--and the result is a 2-hour lesson in the "Folies (Bergère)" of power. If you're expecting to see what the DVD jacket calls the "graphic sexuality" that caused "controversy with censors worldwide" on this "uncut & uncensored" version, you're in for a disappointment (this is pretty tame stuff even by late '80s standards), but if you're looking for some good scandalous fun, you've come to the right place. Recommended. (S. C. Sickles)
