A true indie gem, and one of the most successful Canadian films ever released in the U.S., 1991's Strangers in Good Company centers on seven great and gray ladies who, when their sightseeing bus breaks down, find themselves stranded in a deserted farmhouse. There, awaiting rescue, the women pool their disparate talents to survive the long night, during which they reflect on their pasts, futures, and the curious forces that brought them together. This seemingly ad-libbed film, which I suspect is more method than madness, sneaks up on you like the mist out of which the women seem to materialize, delivering a tonic for the soul, regardless of one's age. Not to be missed! Highly recommended. (S. C. Sickles)
