Ultra-campy two-fer ("Help me. Help ME!") chronicling "an experiment gone horribly wrong," with Vincent Price playing a mad scientist obsessed with developing a matter transfer device that ends up scrambling his constitution with that of an inadvertent fly bystander. While the 1958 original was an above average thriller-chiller in its time, modern audiences will be entertained, if at all, solely by its nostalgic appeal; as for the "Return," it's an unnecessary trip (though I admit it was a treat seeing them both at least once in anamorphic 2.35:1 widescreen). Fox would have been wiser to team this one with David Cronenberg's creepy '86 remake and leave both the Return of the Fly and The Fly 2 sequels to languish. A weak optional purchase. (S. C. Sickles)
