The third and final entry in Hal Roach Studios' popular series finds Cosmo Topper (Roland Young) once again saddled with ghost trouble, this time in the form of Joan Blondell, who enlists the reluctant Topper to help her solve her own murder. Scripters Gordon Douglas and Jonathan Latimer have created a reasonably twisted mystery of the mansion-with-many-secret-chambers variety, and Blondell is the perfect comic foil to Young's straight man. Neither, however, can "top" Eddie "Rochester" Anderson's brilliant (though criticized in our politically correct times) performance as a wide-eyed family chauffeur. Boasting nothing more than a trailer in the way of extras, the DVD version of director Roy Del Ruth's 1941 comic caper features reasonably good visual and audio qualities. Recommended. (R.
