In their fourth year, the lovely ladies of Wisteria Lane welcome a new arrival and, of course, more melodrama. Most of the 2007-08 season revolves around newcomer Katherine Mayfair (Dana Delany), an old friend of Susan's who moves back into the neighborhood with her husband Adam (Nathan Fillon) and teenaged daughter Dylan (Lyndsy Fonseca). Katherine not only has numerous skeletons in her closet, but also a genius for stirring up trouble, which she does all year long (although the season's best episode—”Something's Coming”—conjures up trouble that is even beyond Katherine's abilities: a tornado that devastates the area). The two-part finale presents a cliffhanging nail-biter that puts many of the principal characters in deadly danger and shines the spotlight on Katherine and Dylan. This year's 17 episodes downplay somewhat the character of Gabrielle, who dominated earlier seasons (while turning Eva Longoria Parker into the show's breakout star), but the fourth season does see the arrival of a gay couple to Wisteria Lane, as well as a declaration of all-out war between Bree (Marcia Cross) and Edie (Nicollette Sheridan). DVD extras include behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and bloopers. Serving up more action and intrigue than what you'd find in a full year of most daily soap operas, this is recommended.
