Opening with a call to youth by Pope John Paul II to “... be signs of God's love ... witnesses to the loving presence of Christ,” this short film presents a new perspective on missionary activity that opens up possibilities for the ordinary person. Beginning with the familiar concept of religious men and women ministering in Zambia, A Call to Mission presents profiles of laypeople working in Africa, Catholic priests doing mission work in Mexico, and members of the laity serving the homeless in New Jersey. These well-photographed vignettes illustrate the fact that anyone can use his or her gifts for serving fellow human beings; the possibilities are limited only by the imagination—all provide witness to Jesus' good news. The program ends with an invitation to “find your mission and find a way to do it”—be it once a week, once a month, or by devoting your whole life to service. Like many other Oblate Media films, this production delivers its message with clarity, and should be a useful adjunct for young people's religious education classes. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
