This is a story about mountain climbing and a celebration of the human spirit as experienced by one particular climber: John Donlou, who lost his right arm in an accident, yet was soon back on the mountains, climbing as fearless as ever. The video tells the amazing story of his rise from feelings of despair immediately after the accident to the euphoria he now experiences. Donlou acknowledges his need to depend on others and this is a vital aspect of the program: too often, people with disabilities are shown behaving as if they were entirely self-sufficient; unfortunately, that may give the wrong message to people who do have to rely on others for assistance. Donlou is especially complimentary to his wife and gives her the credit she is due for helping him through the dark days after his accident. This video succeeds on many different levels and could be very helpful in encouraging formerly active people that they need not lose hope because of a tragic accident. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Carlson)
