Mei-Yin and Qian Yi lead viewers through New York's Chinatown, visiting the open-air markets, a playground, a temple, shops, and a herbalist/doctor, concluding with supper at a restaurant, all the while introducing and repeating various Mandarin Chinese words and phrases. Schoolchildren are also seen in what are supposed to be “sing-along” segments, but--unfortunately--no transliterated Chinese words are shown onscreen (since many of the featured children are from the Families with Children from China adoption support group, this is particularly disappointing). American-born parents wanting to learn a bit of Chinese for their child's sake will need a pretty sharp ear and a steady finger on the rewind button to learn the words, making this most suitable for families who are already bilingual (and therefore wouldn't need it). Optional. Aud: K, E, P. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
